Why have you got cold radiators?
When you discover your radiator isn’t heating up the way it should be, it can be very frustrating, especially during a cold winter.
A professional qualified engineer can fix these problems quickly and easily. Sometimes it can be as simple as your boiler pressure is too high.
Sometimes it is possible to mend your own cold radiator if you have a manual telling you how to do so.
If you have lost the manual you can often type the make and model into google with the issue and they will point you in the right direction to having a warm radiator again.
So why have you got a cold radiator?
The thermostat is too low
Research has shown that over 60% of us are making errors when using a thermostat.
If you have a basic thermostat you may have the thermostat set too low, very simple turn the temperature higher.
It’s usually recommended to have your thermostat set to the lowest and most comfortable temperature.
This will be both comforting and energy efficient.
Consider getting a smart thermostat installed.
These are designed to learn your heating habits and your preference to create heating schedules that correspond with your routine daily.
You can even adjust the temperature of your home when you are sat at your work desk or even better “at the pub”!!
The timer or programmer has stopped working
Your boiler is programmed to distribute heating and hot water.
You should be able to adjust the settings to your own preference.
But if these stop working suddenly, it could be that the clock dial is stuck. Power cuts and seasonal time changes are very common causes of these appearing broken.
The gas boiler’s pilot light is out
In older boilers, the pilot light provides the flame that lights the gas produced by the main boiler.
If this goes out, a valve cuts the gas to prevent a leak. If you notice that the light has gone out, you can try to relight it.
Follow the manufacturer’s steps to relighting the pilot. If necessary, repeat, if it remains to be unsuccessful, contact a qualified engineer.
The system pipework is blocked
A Gas Safe registered engineer can perform a system power flush.
This process involves sending a chemically infused liquid through the central heating system at a high velocity to remove any rust, dirt or sludge that may have built up over the years.
This will potentially make your central work at full efficiency again.
